Welcoming and Social Promotion Projects

by Juan Eugenio Mora Prior

Our missionary presence is to live in the workers’ neighborhood of Orcasitas, Madrid. It means experiencing up close the call of the blood in the precariousness, immigration and inequality of wealth within the country, with the consequences of suffering among the people, but also a rich neighborhood awareness and spirit of community welcoming.

To face these difficulties, the parish responds with projects of welcoming and social promotion (Caritas welcoming and Follow-up), the accompaniment of families and minors (Center for the Education of Minors), the creation of spaces for artistic, and playful creativity (batukada), the accompaniment through active listening with attitudes of unconditional welcoming, empathy and congruence (Gaspar del Bufalo listening center), the elaboration of handicraft articles to promote encounters and solidarity sales (Mamartesanas), the development of actions and campaigns for economic support and cooperation with our mission in Guinea Bissau.

From the perspective of announcing, the parish favors participative processes with a synodal spirit (adult group), family catechesis (Alpha), deepening of faith for pre-adolescents (Orkapanda) and young people (the “precious ones”) and adoration prayer with silence and music.
