In pali, a native language of Thailand, Cambodia, India and other parts of Asia, “Saddha” is the same as faith and means confidence in Christ, the Risen, who “himself came up and walked along” with the disciples of Emmaus in front of their despair, uncertainty and disappointment. Jesus goes with them and, as a true Master, mentions and helps them becoming aware of what it was written in the Scriptures about Himself.

Nowadays, in the XXI century, these words encourage us to think about our way of being Catholics. Once I heard a priest saying in a pre-baptismal catechesis that some Christians go to the Church only for Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation and Marriage and they don’t return to celebrate the life and the presence of the Risen Christ in the Eucharist. However, the eyes of the disciples of Emmaus were opened when the saw Him breaking the bread….

With the words of Pope Francis: “let’s set off… enlighted by the encounter with Jesus and encouraged by His Spirit”. And although we consider ourselves weak and fragile men and women, as Colegio San Francisco de Borja, we get stronger in the Eucharist as preparation for the missions, to go beyond the walls of our school.
