January 12th marked the 142nd anniversary of the death of Venerable Giovanni Merlini, the third Moderator General of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. On the occasion, the seminarians from the Italian Province organized a triduum at the church of Santa Maria in Trivio. Many people joined in the prayer, some have had a great devotion to Venerable Merlini while others simply were curious about the occasion.
Throughout the three days, the faithful inscribed their prayers, needs, and thanksgivings in a prayer book which was placed near the tomb of Merlini.  By the end of the triduum there were prayers in a multitude of languages, a testimony to the diverse, multicultural character of the Church.
In addition to the seminarians, Missionaries from around Rome gathered with many Adorers of the Blood of Christ, other religious, and the laity to take part in the triduum. The triduum included the celebration of a vigil mass, reflection on the letters of Merlini, the daily praying of the Chaplet of the Precious Blood, and vespers. People were able to follow the triduum on “twitter” with the hashtag #12delMerlini. The triduum ended with the celebration of the eucharist, presided over by V. Rev. Oliviero Magnone, C.PP.S., Provincial Director of the Italian Province, during which everyone prayed for the beatification and canonization of the Venerable Giovanni Merlini.
