Rev. Onesphor Kayombo, C.PP.S., September 8, 1960-March 14, 2018

Fr. Onesphor Lazaro Kayombo, C.PP.S, died on March 14,, 2018 at Kinondoni Hospital in Dar es Salaam from cardio-pulmonary failure. His funeral service and burial is scheduled March 20 at the Provincial Cemetery at Manyoni in Singida.

Fr. Onesphor was one of the first two Missionaries from Tanzania. He was born September 8, 1960 at Lupingu village in Njombe Region.  After finishing Primary and Secondary education he joined the C.PP.S. formation to become a missionary priest in the Congregation. He studied Philosophy at Kibosho Major Seminary in Moshi, Tanzania, then Theological Studies at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. He earned a Licentiate of Dogmatic Theology in Christology at the same University.

After his definitive incorporation on December 2, 1990 and presbyteral ordination on September 29, 1991, Fr. Onesphor served in various communities including Tegeta Parish in Dar es Salaam, Giovanni Merlini Vocation Centre in Dodoma, Itigi Parish in Singida as a Parish Priest and Peramiho Senior Seminary in Songea as a lecturer. He then returned to the Angelicum University in Rome for doctoral studies in 2001. After his studies he was appointed pastor in Ferrara, Italy from 2003 to 2015.  In 2016 he returned to Tanzania and began ministering at Tegeta Parish in Dar es Salaam where he served as superior of that community.

We thank God for the life and vocation of Fr. Onesphor and for the love, sacrifices and the services he rendered to the people of God. May the Almighty God of mercy receive him in His Glorious Kingdom.
