Rev. Michael Schiegl, C.PP.S.  1929-2017

Rev. Michael Schiegl, C.PP.S., from the Teutonic Province, died on December 31, 2017.  He was born on January 14, 1929 in Rettenbach, Diocese of Regensburg, and was baptized the following day. In 1950 he entered the Missionaries of the Precious Blood and was definitively incorporated on December 3, 1954. On July 10, 1955, he was ordained to the priesthood in Salzburg.

Until 1969 Michael was a pilgrimage pastor in Maria Baumgärtle, interrupted by two years of chaplaincy in Traunstein, at Holy Cross parish.  After that he was the spiritual director and, from 1973, the rector of the newly opened boarding school Paulinum in Straßberg.  He also served as a religion teacher at the State Realschule in Bobingen.

In 1981, Fr. Michael began serving in the diocesan curia in the Diocese of Augsburg and was President of the Marian Priests and Teachers’ Congregation until his retirement in 2004. In 1983, the diocese of Augsburg appointed him to the Episcopal Clergy Council.  His last years were spent at St. Anthony’s home for the elderly in Augsburg.  Father Michael Schiegl was able to use his word to reach the hearts of people in preaching and teaching.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on January 5 in the pilgrimage church at Baumgärtle, followed by burial in the cemetery in Bedernau.    May he rest in peace.  Amen.
