Father James D. Sloan, C.PP.S. of the Kansas City Province of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood died on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at St. Charles Center in Carthagena, Ohio. He was 84 years old.

Fr. Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 15, 1934 and he entered formation with the Society of the Precious Blood at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana on September 6, 1953. He was Definitively Incorporated as a Missionary of the Precious Blood on August 15, 1959, and was ordained to the Priesthood at St. Charles in Carthagena, Ohio on June 9, 1962.

As a missionary he responded to the needs of the Congregation and the Church by serving with skill and great dedication in a wide range of ministries.  He was a teacher and school administrator; a pastor and a chaplain; a compassionate spiritual director and a thoughtful preacher. He served the Congregation as a Director of Companions, a formator, a provincial councilor and a Provincial Director of the former Pacific Province.

Fr. Jim was a people person,” his good friend, Fr. Jim Franck, C.PP.S. said. “He reached out to people and they responded. I was always amazed at the breadth of his relationships and all the people he was able to maintain friendships with over the years. And it was always genuine. He loved life and he lived it fully.”
