On the afternoon of Sunday, May 16, at the Roman parish of San Gaspare, Matteo Ciuffreda was ordained deacon by the imposition of the hands of Mons. José Rodríguez Carballo, Secretary of the Vatican Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. In his opening greeting, the pastor, Fr. Domenico D’Alia, stressed that Matteo had been very involved in the parish’s youth ministry during the past years. Attended the celebration many young people and many confreres, including Fr. Emanuele Lupi, Moderator General, and Fr. Terenzio Pastore, Provincial of the Italian Province, and friends of Matteo. Something special was the presence of some cloistered nuns. The live stream allowed Matteo’s family in Canada and his friends in various countries around the world to join the celebration. In his homily, Archbishop Carballo strongly exhorted the candidate for ordination to proclaim the Word of God as a testimony of his faith. The choir of the parish wonderfully prepared the Eucharistic celebration.
