On Saturday June 18, 2016, in the Cathedral of Zagreb, Croatia thirteen deacons were ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal Josip Bozanic, the Archbishop of Zagreb.  Among those thirteen was Deacon Davor Lukačević, C.PP.S. of the Croatian Mission, who following a pastoral year spent in the Italian Province, has been ministering in the parish of St. Emerik in Zagreb.

In addition to the diocesan clergy, several Missionaries of the Precious Blood from Croatia, Poland, and Italy participated in the ordination liturgy.  Among those were the director of the Croatian Mission, Rev. Ilija Grgic, C.PP.S., V. Rev. Wojchiech Czernatowicz, C.PP.S., the Provincial of the Polish Province, and V. Rev. Oliviero Magnone, C.PP.S., the Provincial of the Italian Province.  The Missionaries were joined by the family and friends of the newly ordained priest and several Adorers of the Blood of Christ.

During his homily, the Cardinal stressed that the center of the priest’s life and ministry must be Jesus and everything that the priest does must be done in the name of Jesus Christ.

Following the liturgy, a wonderful, traditional Croatian banquet was held, at which everyone was able to get to know members of the Union of the Blood of Christ.  The Union of the Blood of Christ are lay associates of the Missionaries.

Fr. Davor celebrated a mass of thanksgiving the following day at the Croatian Mission’s Center for Spirituality in Prozorje (Dugo Selo).  Many members of the Union of the Blood of Christ assisted in the liturgy and hosted a celebration following the mass.

We give thanks to God for the gift of these special days and above all for the fulfillment of the dream of St. Gaspar to have a thousand tongues proclaim the glory of the Precious Blood of Jesus!
