On August 20, 2016 the new Gethsemane Spirituality Center in Pappakudi was formally inaugurated.  The bishop of Kumbakonam, Rev. F. Antonisamy, officiated at the ceremony.  In front of a crowd of over 300 people he cut a ceremonial ribbon which was strung across the main entrance and during the liturgy the altar and tabernacle were blessed.  The bishop thanked the Missionaries of the Precious Blood for their presence and ministry in the diocese.

V. Rev. Vara Kumar Chowtapalli, C.PP.S., the director of the Indian Vicariate, thanked the Teutonic Province for their generous financial support that helped the center become a reality.   He also thanked the Italian Province for their continued support of the Vicariate.

The center will provide formation for the laity in the diocese through the offering of retreats, days of recollections, and other liturgies.  The diocese and the Vicariate have entered into an agreement for the Missionaries to provide a ministry of evangelization in the diocese and the new spirituality center will be an integral part of that ministry.  Initially three missionaries will be stationed at the center.
