New Deacons in the Cincinnati Province and Vietnamese Mission

On May 25 the Cincinnati Province, Kansas City Province, and Vietnamese Mission celebrated the diaconal ordinations of two of their members, James Smith, C.PP.S. and Peter Tam Hoang, C.PP.S.  The ordinations took place at Saint Charles Center in Carthagena, Ohio during the annual Provincial Assembly of the Cincinnati Province.

Bishop Joseph Charron, C.PP.S. presided at the ordination liturgy and reminded the two newly ordained deacons, “Do not worry, God will give you the gifts you need to carry out your ministry. Trust in those gifts. Pray to the Holy Spirit that those gifts will transform you so that more and more, you will have the heart of Jesus.”

The two deacons were in formation together at Catholic Theological Union and so they found it fitting to be ordained together.  Hoang commented that he was very grateful for the many members of the Kansas City Province, Vietnamese Mission, and especially his family who were present to celebrate with him.  Smith also valued  the presence of Missionaries from different provinces.  He said, “As Peter and I celebrated the beginning of our ordained ministry, it was truly meaningful for me to experience a Precious Blood community which cuts across provinces.”

Peter Tam Hoang returned to Vietnam to continue his work in the vocation and formation ministry of the mission.  Smith has been assigned to the St. Henry Parish Cluster in Mercer County, Ohio.
