October has been the month dedicated to the mission and the consideration of the role of the Church in the world for a long time. This year, at its beginning, we would like to offer you a set of considerations originated from the main topic of the 97th World Mission Day that will take place on the 22nd October 2023. It is entitled “Burning hearts, feet on the move” (cfr Lk 24:13-35) as it is written in the passage of the disciples of Emmaus.   

Some of our brethren from different countries will share how we live in our ecclesiastical and social contexts. We try to be “companions in travel and in breaking the bread” with our different callings. 

Although the General Moderator of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood does not have an ongoing ministry in a precise location, he has his mission as well. This is “being companion in travel and in breaking the bread” in the everyday routine of the Congregation. Therefore, my way of living in the variety of ministries that the Congregation offers at the service of the Kingdom of God follows the art. 61 of our Constitution. It states: 

“The visible sign of unity in the Congregation is the Moderator General […]. His first duty is to animate and renew the spirit of the Congregation, and to promote its expansion. Working in the closest harmony with the other major superiors, he coordinates the whole life of the Congregation, and promotes unity among members, and Provinces, Vicariates, and Missions, and fosters the mission of the Congregation”. 

This is the way I live, faithfully to the mission the Church gave me. I reconfirm it every day during the Eucharistic celebration, which is “the way to Emmaus nowadays”.
