Dear Confreres,
I would like to describe a little our situation in the Polish Province regarding the terrible war in Ukraine.
The situation is increasingly unpredictable. For now, after the first wave of refugees, there are about 60 people in our homes. Some of them stay longer, others just a few days and then go to bigger cities to look for a job and a place for their families (they are usually women and children, sometimes grandparents). This way the number of refugees decreases and increases constantly. For this reason, we are always alert, open and ready to welcome the next wave of Ukrainians fleeing the war.
Apart from basic needs (such as a room, a bed, a bathroom, laundry, food, etc.) people from Ukraine can also find basic medical care and Internet access in our homes. Children who want to go to school get equipped with school supplies. We have also bought, for example, a refrigerator for a family so that they feel more comfortable and independent and better welcomed in our homes.
Our missionaries from the house in Łabunki , which is very close to the border with Ukraine (about 50 km), go every day to the border to the city of Hrebenne with food (hot meal), blankets, etc. There are many refugees waiting their turn to register in Poland as refugees and obtain the appropriate documents.
