On Saturday November 22, Saint Joseph’s College, sponsored by the Cincinnati Province, hosted a symposium marking the occasion of 50^th anniversary of the promulgation of the Dogmatic Constitution Lumen Gentium and the upcoming bicentennial celebration of the founding of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood.   Approximately 30 people attended the all day symposium, including some alumni of the college, people from the community and several Companions and staff from the College.

Dr. John Nichols spoke first on some of the historical context of Lumen Gentium and provided participants with some of the key development in the understanding of the Church.  Fr. Tim McFarland explored some of the ecclesiological foundations of the document especially the expanded vision of the Church and connections to the spiritually and mission of the C.PP.S., particularly the development of the role of the laity.  Fr. Don Davison then spoke on the impact of Lumen Gentium in parish life, noting how the pre-conciliar isolated parish life opened to a much broader vision and connections to other Christians and the world at large.
