Hurry To Bring Light To All

by Michael Bichlmair

Psalm 121 says, “I lift up mine eyes unto the mountains: from whence cometh my help? My help comes from the Lord, who created heaven and earth“.

Even in this autumn season, when the leaves are falling, we seek to look up to the mountains – up to the stars. The mysterious mirror of the other world. In this season we are also reminded anew of the autumn of our own lives. I think that each of us longs to be deeply loved. Our longing is, after all, to return one day to the One who created us and has always loved us.

According to the monk fathers, the roots of not burning are the lack of attention in brotherly love and certain fantasies in thinking about others. Each of us is tested in our perseverance. I think we know the experience of the Lord burning our desire because He wants to give Himself to us in His time.

How was it with the woman at Jacob’s well? The Lord is also waiting for you and me – it doesn’t have to be at the well. When we draw the water – during our ordinary service in everyday life for those who are entrusted and connected to me – the Lord is certainly also waiting for you and for me.

Deeply touched by this encounter, we cannot help but hurry to bring light to all those who are in darkness: with hearts overflowing with joy and on fire.  Let us be ready!
