In the late evening of October 6, 2018, after a long and fulfilling life, God called our confrere Fr. Winfrid Maria von Essen into his eternal rest. He was in his 92nd year of life and 68th year of priesthood.  Born in Kevelaer, Germany on June 5, 1927, he joined our community in 1946 and was incorporated on February 16, 1951. He was ordained a priest on July 8, 1951 at the Cathedral of Salzburg, Austria.  

Fr. Winfrid had a long and varied ministerial career.  Shortly after his ordination he worked in Caceres and Fuente de Cantos in Spain. After his return to the Teutonic Province, he lived and worked at Maria Hilf in Kufstein, Austria, before serving at Holy Cross parish in Traunstein, Germany.  Then he ministered in different parishes in Germany until 1994 when he became a chaplain in the retirement home of St. Francis in Kolbermoor, Germany.

On Monday, October 15, 2018, a funeral liturgy will be celebrated in Maria Hilf in Kufstein and he will be laid to eternal rest in the community cemetery.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. May he rest in peace. Amen.
