Fr. Lazar Nattalathan, C.PP.S. of the Indian Vicariate of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood died on May 7, 2021 at Villupuram Hospital, Tamilnadu due to complications of Covid-19. He was 42 years old.
Fr. Lazar was born on April 24, 1979. He came from a devoted family, and he was the third of five siblings. His parents were Mr. George, and Mrs. Jaya Rakini from Kommedu, Tamilnadu. He joined the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1998, he was definitive incorporated on May 5, 2007, and ordained priest on April 20, 2008.
Fr. Lazar was a soft-heartened person, with a good sense of humor, joviality, genuine simplicity, unassuming nature, open-hearted and endearing to everyone he met. He had a great zeal in his pastoral work and he was a very talented music writer and composer in his mother tongue Tamil.
As a priest he served in the four states of India: West Bengal, Tamilnadu, Kerala, and Karnataka as associate pastor in the CPPS communities of Boodhamangalam, Ariyalur, Pozhichalur, and Erumaikaranur. In 2020 he was appointed associate pastor at Ayandur, where he spent his last days in ministry.
It is a great loss for the Indian Vicariate of the CPPS, and the Church in India. Considering the request of his family, and the pandemic situation, his mortal body was laid to rest in the church premises of Kommedu on May 8, 2021.
May Almighty God grant eternal rest to him and may perpetual light shine upon him! Amen.
