Fr. Antonio Arcelino Batista Magalhães, C.PP.S. Returns to the House of the Father

Father Arcelino of the Latin American Province died on June 21, 2021, at the age of 51, in the city of Altamira-Pará due to respiratory complications caused by Covid-19.

Father Arcelino was born on February 15, 1970 in Rio Arimum – Acarai Municipality of Porto de Moz – State of Pará. His parents were Manoel Magalhães da Silva and Maria Perola Batista.

He entered formation with the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in Belém – Pará on February 10, 1998. He made his definitive incorporation to the society on January 8, 2005 at the Xingu Cathedral and was ordained a priest on August 15, 2006 in the Parish Church of São Braz in Porto de Moz by the imposition of the hands of Bishop Erwin Krautler, C.PP.S.

Father Arcelino began his ministry in Brazil at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Altamira-Pará in 2007 accompanied by Father Friedrich Sazteger, C.PP.S. He later served as pastor at the Iglesia Sagrado Coração de Jesus (Cathedral) of the Xingu Prelature, Altamira-Pará (2008 to 2010). In May 2010 he was elected Vice Director of the Brazilian Vicariate.

In 2011 he moved to the formation house in Ananindeua-Pará to take care of formation of candidates until 2016. In May 2015 he was elected director of the Brazilian Vicariate for a period of four years (2015 to 2019).

In 2020 he became pastor at the Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro in Altamira. In January of 2020, the new Latin American Province was created and Fr. Arcelino was elected Provincial Councilor, a position he held until the day of his death.

His funeral was held in the city of Altamira and he was buried in the São João Batista cemetery on June 22, 2021. May he rest in peace.
