On August 31, 2011, our Moderator General, Fr. Francesco Bartoloni appointed Fr. Matthew Perumpil, MI as a member of the commission for the Vicariate of India. The Commission was created by the General Curia by the promulgation of an official decree on January 22, 2011.

That decree anticipated the appointment of an Indian who was a member of another religious congregation. This appointment was made on the recommendation of the Commission who conducted a search to find a person who would bring the desired experience and knowledge to the work of the Commission.

“I am very happy to make this appointment,” said Fr. Francesco. “Fr. Mathew has wonderful leadership experience and his cultural background will provide necessary insight to the collaborative work of the Commission.”

Fr. Mathew Perumpil is a Priest of the Order of the Ministers of Infirm (MI) belonging to the Indian Vice Province. He is a certified supervisor in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and served the Order as the Provincial Delegate and later as the Vicar Provincial of Camillians in India from 2004-2010. Currently he is coordinating the HIV/AIDS ministry of the Order in India and is the Director of their Pastoral Health Centre in Bangalore.
