On the memorial of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac, February 10, 2025, at the Reconciliation Center in Prozorje, Br. Luka Ivan Perković and Br. Gregor Potočnik made their first promises and donned the religious habit with a cincture. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the director of the Croatian Mission, Fr. Ilija Grgić, C.PP.S, with the participation of fellow Missionaries and priests from Croatia, Slovenia, and Uganda. The celebration was attended by the candidates’ family members, friends, prayer communities of the Unio Sanguis Christi, religious sisters, and numerous faithful.
Preparation for this significant moment began with the recitation of the Rosary before the Blessed Sacrament. During the homily, Fr. Ilija spoke about the Gospel parable of the grain of wheat, linking it to the example of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac and his steadfastness in faith despite persecution. He also mentioned Blessed Anton Martin Slomšek, highlighting his efforts in educating and enlightening the people and serving the Church. He particularly emphasized that the first promises are a crucial sign of dedication to God and readiness to live the spirituality of St. Gaspar del Bufalo, in service of proclaiming the power of Precious Blood of Christ and reconciliation in the world.
Following the homily, the rite of promises took place, preceded by the solemn chanting of the Litany of Saints. While the entire community knelt, the candidates lay prostrate, expressing their complete surrender to God’s will, while the chanting of the Litany invoked the intercession and assistance of the saints.
Luka Ivan and Gregor then pronounced their promises:
“Of my own free will, I give my promise of fidelity to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, in accordance with the Constitutions and Statutes, placing myself entirely in the service of God for one year.”
After the Mass, the festive gathering continued in the hall of Blessed Giovanni Merlini.
