The General Assembly has begun! Everyone has arrived safely. This morning was taken up primarily with the details required by A10 of the Normative Texts for the opening of a General Assembly, then the Moderator General gave the Assembly his report on their six years of service. As we gathered in the afternoon, we had a prayer of Gathering and Consecration of the Assembly Hall, which started in the Chapel and moved into the Assembly Hall. We’ve included a video clip taken from the Prayer below along with some pictures from the day.
In his homily during the Prayer Service Fr. Francesco reminded the members of the Assembly:
We come here from different corners of the world, our experiences, cultures, and styles of life are different. Yet, we feel we belong to one family, we feel we are brothers to one another. For some of us, probably for many of us, it is the first time to be in such an electoral assembly of the Congregation. But all of us feel that we are not alone. We are first of all, with the persons who have sent us here, with our confreres in our units who have trusted us to be their representatives in this important task: to choose new leadership for the Congregation and to construct together, as a communion, with brothers of other units a vision that will give a new challenge to all members of the Congregation to commit themselves to be prophetic and persons of renewal and reconciliation within the Church and the world.

La Asamblea General ha comenzado! Todos llegaron bien. Esta mañana fue dedidada principalmente a los detalles requeridos por el artículo A10 de los Textos Normativos para la apertura de la Asamblea General, luego el Moderador General entregó su reporte sobre sus seis años de servicio. En su homilía durante la Oración de Inicio, P. Francesco recordó a los miembros de la asamblea:
Venimos aqui desde distintos rincones del mundo, nuestras experiencias, culturas y estilos de vida son distintos. Sin embargo, sentimos que pertenecemos a una familia, sentimos que somos hermanos unos con otros. Para algunos de nosotros, probablemente para muchos de nosotros, es la primera vez que participamosen una asamblea electoral de la Congregación. Pero todos nosotros sentimos que no estamos solos. Estamos, ante todo, con aquellos que nos han enviado, con nuestros hermanos en nuestras unidades que nos han confiado ser sus representantes en esta importante tarea: elegir nuevos líderes para la Congregación y construir juntos, como comunidad, con hermanos de otras unidades una visión que dará un nuevo desafío a todos los miembros de la Congregación a comprometerse a ser profetas y personas de renovación y reconciliacioón en la Iglesia y el mundo.

L’Assemblea Generale è iniziata! Sono tutti giunti sani e salvi. La mattina dell’8 luglio è stata dedicata in primo luogo ai dettagli richiesti dalla A10 riguardo i Testi Normativi per l’apertura di una Assemblea Generale; quindi il Moderatore Generale ha presentato all’Assemblea la sua relazione sui sei anni di servizio trascorsi. Ci siamo poi riuniti nel pomeriggio iniziando la sessione con una preghiera di Raccolta e Consacrazione della Sala dell’Assemblea. La cerimonia è iniziata nella cappella e si è poi trasferita nella stessa Sala della Assemblea. Qui di seguito, abbiamo messo a disposizione un video girato durante la preghiera e alcune foto della giornata.
Nella sua omelia durante la preghiera Padre Francesco ha ricordato ai membri dell’Assemblea che:
Veniamo qui da diversi angoli del mondo, le nostre esperienze, le nostre culture e gli stili di vita sono diversi. Eppure, ci sentiamo di appartenere ad una famiglia, ci sentiamo fratelli fra di noi. Per alcuni di noi, probabilmente per molti di noi, è la prima partecipazione a una assemblea elettorale della Congregazione. Ma tutti noi sentiamo che non siamo soli. Prima di tutto siamo con le persone che ci hanno inviato qui, con i nostri confratelli delle nostre unità che ci hanno accordato la fiducia e chiesto di essere i loro rappresentanti in questo importante compito: scegliere una nuova leadership per la Congregazione e costruire insieme, in una profonda comunione con i fratelli di tutte le unità, una visione che sarà da nuova sfida per tutti i membri della Congregazione e li spingerà a impegnarsi per essere profetici e persone di rinnovamento e di riconciliazione all’interno della Chiesa e del mondo.
