The Chilean Vicariate of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood gathered in Valdivia for its annual assembly from January 25th through the 29th. The first two days of the meetings were devoted to see how we envision and promote a new way of involving lay people in the Vicariate through our various apostolates, emphasizing our Precious Blood Spirituality as a means of increasing the bond between the CPPS members and the laity. Nine lay people were invited to participate in the assembly. Also present throughout all the meetings was Provincial Director of the Cincinnati Province, Fr. Larry Hemmelgarn, C.PP.S.
On Wednesday everybody traveled to a nearby resort area where we had a nice time relaxing together. On Thursday the Assembly resumed the Missionaries began the election process for Director and Councilors. Those elected were: Fr. Luis Briones, C.PP.S. was elected Vicariate Director; Fr. Humberto Jaña, C.PP.S., first councilor, Fr. Claudio Varas, C.PP.S., second councilor and Fr. Juan Carlos Barajas, C.PP.S., third councilor.
During the days of the assembly the members and hundreds of people gathered at Precious Blood Church, to celebrate a memorial Mass for recently deceased Fr. John Falter, CPPS, who faithfully served in Chile for 44 years. The Chilean Vicariate is in debt of gratitude to this servant of God who taught by a way of example to be always open to God; to have a prayerful life; to be at service and above all to have a deep love for the Blood of Christ.
