Brother Nick Renner, C.PP.S., has received the 2013 Archbishop O’Hara Advocacy Award for Rural Ministry from the National Catholic Rural Life Conference (NCRLC).

Brother Nick is a member of the Cincinnati province and was the manager of the community farm at St. Charles in Ohio for many years.  He continues to help the Community in its stewardship of the farmland it still owns and now rents out.

Brother Nick is a member of the board of supervisions of the Mercer County Soil and Water Conservation District. He is a longtime advocate of soil and water conservation and is a pioneer in farming methods that nurture and protect the earth and its waterways.

The award honors an advocate for rural communities and social justice in the spirit and tradition of Archbishop Edwin V. O’Hara, the founder of the NCRLC.  NCRLC President Jim Enish will present the award to Brother Nick during a 2 p.m. ceremony on Sunday, October 13 at St. Charles Center, Carthagena, Ohio.

Brother Nick hopes to use the ceremony as an opportunity to spotlight the issues facing farmers in their efforts to conserve natural resources.
