On April 4th Bishop Erwin Kräutler, CPPS, a member of the Teutonic Province of the C.PP.S. and bishop of the Xingu in northern Brazil met with the Holy Father. Bishop Kräutler is a well-known advocate for the rights of Brazil’s indigenous people. In a private audience, Bishop Kräutler appealed for the support of Pope Francis in the struggle for the rights of the indigenous. Also while they met, the pope has asked Bishop Kräutler for first-hand information on the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and the resulting environmental threat to indigenous people. Through this information Bishop Kräutler is contributing to the encyclical on the environment that is being prepared by the Holy See.
