The Missionaries of the Precious Blood are an international community with members on every continent except for Antartica. Our missionary work takes on a variety of forms. For some, they leave their home countries and cultures to work with the People of God in a faraway place. Others serve as missionaries close to home. There is a variety of ministries as well. No matter how or where we serve, we are motivated by the spirituality of the Precious Blood and we are supported in community.
Two of our priests from the Province of Tanzania, Frs. George Mwaluko (42) and Sosthenes Ndendya (39), are serving as missionaries in Guinea Bissau. The small community in Guinea Bissau was started by the Iberian Province, and in the past few years the Province of Tanzania has begun collaborating with the Iberian Province in this mission. Fr. Joaquin Cardoso Pereira, from the Iberian Province, ministers in a local parish, while Frs. George and Sosthenes answered the call to work with the Precious Blood seminarians in the formation ministry in Guinea Bissau. There are currently six seminarians under their direction. Two are in the initial level of formation and four students studying philosophy and theology at the Major Seminary in Bissau.
Our last General Assembly called on us to become a Prophetic, Multicultural Communion for the Renewal of the Church and the Reconciliation of the World. Our collaborative efforts in Guinea Bissau are one step towards that dream.
